Drawbridge, Tony

Tony Drawbridge

This collection of work, as you will read further below, is the culmination of many things, but none more so than Tony’s need to solidify his sense of place. He is very proudly an Island Bay Boy, a Wellingtonian, a New Zealander and a Citizen of the World.

Artist Statement

The creation of this exhibition has been evolving in my mind for longer than I can recall.

The input for the work has been a constant since my life began in November 1972.

As each idea forms for a painting, various stories and scenarios are revisited.

Once the physical act of drawing and painting begins, the narrative continues, with my thoughts wondering through my memory and a ‘mind map’ of this fine metropolitan village, by the sea, between the hills and valleys, is created.

Iconic references are drawn, to pin point a ‘stop’ or ‘snap shot’ of a particular scene.

Hopefully each viewer will see and recognize points of reference from their own experiences, and thereby enabling them to partake in the painting narrative.
